Sports Minister Kofi Adams has defended Ghanas performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the Black Stars cannot be said to have had a poor campaign after advancing beyond the group stage.Ghana finished third in a group featuring England, Colombia and Panama, collecting four points from a win over Panama, a draw against England and a defeat to Colombia before losing narrowly to Croatia.Despite scoring just two goals in four matches, Adams believes the team made progress compared to Ghanas recent World Cup campaigns. If you consider our recent performance, from failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup hosted in Russia to our performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where we exited at the group stage, to the 2026 World Cup, where at least we advanced from the group stage, you cannot say it was a poor showing, Adams said on Channel One TV.However, Ghanas recent results have raised fresh concerns about the teams progress. The Black Stars have lost their opening two matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Cte dIvoire and The Gambia. With four qualifying matches remaining, Ghana face an uphill task to keep their hopes of reaching the tournament alive and avoid missing a second consecutive AFCON after failing to qualify for the 2025 edition.
